Pilot Projects in Drug Abuse Research 2017

The NIDA Center for GWAS in Outbred rats (P50DA037844) focuses on quantitative genetic studies of a range of psychologically complex drug abuse-related phenotypes using outbred heterogeneous stock rats. In order to broaden the impact of this center we are soliciting applications for pilot projects that are related to the center’s objectives. See https://ratgenes.org/pilot-projects/ for details.

Area of support: This call invites applications from participating institutions (UCSD, University of Michigan, University of Tennessee Health Science Center, University at Buffalo and the Wake Forest University) for pilot projects related to genetics of drug abuse.

Eligibility: Assistant, Associate and full Professors (or equivalent); junior faculty are encouraged to apply.

Deadline for letter of intent: February 1, 2017. (Letters of intent are not required but they allow us to give you feedback that may increase the chances that we will fund you application).

Deadline for application: March 1, 2017.

Decisions announced: April 1, 2017.

Award date: May 1, 2017.

Project end periods: Start day 5/1/2017, end date 4/30/2018 or 4/30/2019.

To apply: Please submit a short letter of intent stating the connection between the proposed study and the Center of Excellence and an estimate of the total funds requested (up to $20,000 per year, for 1 or 2 years). The deadline for the letter of intent is February 9, 2017. Proposals that are judged to be meritorious and related to the goals of the center, will receive an invitation to submit a full application. Letters of intent should be submitted to Oksana Polesskaya.

Full application is due on March 1, 2016. It should include:

1. Abstract of the proposal, including statement of relevance to the NIDA center for GWAS in outbred rats (1/2 page)

2. Specific Aims (1 page)

3. Research strategy (2 pages)

4. Biosketches (current NIH format)

5. Brief budget Justification.

6. Bibliography

Proposals will be scored based on scientific merit, scientific diversity, institutional diversity, and other criteria relevant to the goals of the pilot projects core.
