Seven pilot project grant proposals for research projects connected to the NIDA Center for GWAS in Rats were submitted in response to the initial call for submissions. They span a wide range of research disciplines from fruit fly genetics to bioinformatics, each is intended to enhance the impact of the center. The principal investigator of the center, Dr. Abraham Palmer, said: “The robust response for our colleagues at the five participating institutions have the potential to dramatically enhance the impact of our center.”
The proposals will be evaluated by a team of world class scientists from the internal and external advisory boards as well as individuals brought in for their specific expertise. Decisions on the proposals will be made in early December; so that the funded projects can begin in January 2014. The next opportunity to submit Pilot Projects will occur in early 2015 (see the Center’s Pilot Project page for further details).
